As per the 2001 Census, women make up 48% of the country’s population as an independent group. The Constitution of India recognizes the importance of women as human resources and empowers the State to implement measures of positive discrimination in their favor. There were several articles in the Constitution that emphasized the Constitution’s commitment to women’s socioeconomic development and their right to participate in decision-making. A key objective of the Project For Women Empowerment is to advance, develop, and empower women in all spheres of life by creating a judicial and legal system more responsive to women’s needs and mainstreaming gender perspectives in development. Additionally, a commitment was made to strengthen and form relevant institutional mechanisms along with implementing international obligations and commitments and cooperating at international, regional and sub-regional levels.
